School Council and Houses

The School Council are elected from years 2- 6. The Head, teaching staff and School Governors have consulted them on a range of issues and they have also come forward with ideas and actions to improve the school and its spirit. School council researched school websites before we started ours and they told the Website steering group what things they'd like to see on our one!

Year 6 suggested that the tall hedge outside the Library window be cut down to improve the safety, outlook and light in that part of the school. The area has now been cleared and it is hoped that a shelter can be built to provide an area for quiet activites.

The whole school has been involved in contributing ideas to the new Home-School Agreement which has now been issued.

The School Council are pleased that there are more teaching assistants to help and support children with their work. The children also like the new Smartboards because the whole class can see the same picture and the maths games and science simulations are fun.

The School Council are concerned about car parking outside the school gates in the morning and at home time. We are worried about the amount of traffic, the safety of children and whether there should be more signs about parking.

We started the House system in October 2006 and have divided the children in each year into four houses, named after aeroplanes at Duxford's Imperial War Museum. The houses are Concorde, Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire.

Children collect Housepoints throughout the school for excellent behaviour, work or attiitude. Each week, the house points are collected to be put on the House board in Assembly. The Houses will also be our sports day teams, and the children often collect in houses for special events, like Christmas Dinner.
