Duxford Playgroup
The Playgroup gives children a secure and happy environment and follows a set Government curriculum with plenty of creative time. We have fully equipped premises with a safe, fenced-off play area outside. We also undergo regular Ofsted inspections, our last one being in July 2007. The report stated that "the quality and standards of the care are good".
Duxford Playgroup is a well established and respected playgroup for children over the age of two and a half and up to school age. In September 2007 we moved out of our old portacabin in the Duxford Primary School's grounds, and we now operate from the very nice Sunshine Room which is part of the school building. We share this facility with the Duxford Baby and Toddler Group and with the DX Club.
We run sessions every morning during term-time from 9am to 12pm, with a lunchtime club from 12pm to 1pm. We also run pre-school sessions on a Tuesday and Wednesday from 1.15pm to 3.15pm for older children in the year before they go to school. We find that with being so close to the primary school, those children who are to move up to the reception year find it a much easier experience, especially as we make visits to the school to get them used to it.
Please see www.duxfordplaygroup.com for more information.
Contact the playgroup manager (Tina Spencer) during session times on 01223 830459 or the school office for further details.
Duxford Baby and Toddler Group
A toddler group runs in the same building as the playgroup every week. We have been active now in the village for many years, and along with the Duxford Playgroup, make up the Duxford Under Fives Association which is a registered charity.
The benefits of the group are two-fold really. It provides a great play opportunity for toddlers and babies, and is a good way of ensuring that your children get to know others within the village. It also is a lifeline for mums and occasionally dads who can meet together for a coffee and a little adult conversation!
We meet on Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm - 3.00pm. We run on a purely voluntary basis, and charge a nominal entry fee of £1.50 per family, which includes a drink for parents and juice and a snack for the children. We aim to offer a theme for each session such as 'construction', 'music' or 'sand play', although children can choose to play with any of the toys available. On warmer days we have use of an enclosed play area with lots of outdoor toys.
During the year we also have a number of organised events including Christmas, Easter and Halloween parties, a Mini sports day, a Teddy bears picnic, and the always-popular mums night out!
We always welcome new faces, so please come along to the sessions, or feel free to contact me.
