From the Chair of Governors
On behalf of the Governing Body I would like to extend a warm welcome to Duxford Church of England Primary School.
At full compliment, the Governing Body of this school consists of twelve Governors, representing those groups who are all involved in supporting the school in the many aspects of school life. There are:
3 Foundation Governors appointed by The Church of England
4 Parent Governors elected by the parents
2 Staff (1 teacher and 1 support staff)
2 Community representatives
1 Cambridge Education Authority representative.
Most of the Governors serve for at least one 4 year term and in many cases are either re-appointed or are voted by the parents to remain for a further 4 years. In this way the Governing Body consists of individuals with experience and commitment, with new Governors bringing to the school fresh ideas and skills. The School Governors help to provide a strategic view for the school in forming policy and in delivering high standards for every pupil in a caring environment.
Each Governor is appointed to two Sub-Committees according to their particular skills and interests. The Sub-Committees cover Finance, Personnel, Communications, Curriculum, Buildings and Health & Safety and report to the whole Governing Body at the full Governors meetings twice a term.
Working parties are created to explore special policy issues that arise from time to time. Each Governor has an individual subject interest, for example Literacy, Numeracy, PE, etc and is attached to a particular class that they follow through the school. The Governors make regular visits to the school and attend functions, so are able to appreciate the broad picture as well as looking at the school from their own particular perspective.
All Governors attend training sessions on a regular basis to maintain high standards. We work together with the Headteacher, the LEA and the national organisations to build a sound framework of policy and principle within which teaching and learning takes place for all the children at Duxford Church of England Primary School.
If you are intererested in becoming a school governor and would like to know more, please feel free to talk to any of the school governors, or contact me via the school office.
Yours sincerely
Penny Woodhead
